On Career Cruising, some of the jobs they preferred to me was a computer animator, video game developer, web developer, database developer, and website designer. One that interested me the most was a video game developer. Video game developers design fun and interactive video games. A lot of pieces have to come together to make a game. For instance, there's the story, graphics, game mechanics, music, and AI. Developers' tasks depend on which of these areas they focus on. In order to achieve this position, there are several classes you can take to build the basics. In E-comm during high school, I can take graphic design, video, animation, and computer programming to understand the essentials. In college, game design and interactive media programs are offered. Most programs are 4 years in length and lead to a bachelor's degree. You must know programming languages as well as assembly language. You should also have in-depth knowledge of graphics, operating systems, and platforms. Training in popular game consoles (Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo) is helpful as well. I enjoy playing video games in my free time and would like to get more in depth with them. Overall, people in this field can make anywhere from about $30,000 to $120,000 a year. Some highly skilled senior developers earn more. Just starting out, I could become video game tester then work my way up to developers. As I progress through high school and college I will see what best fits my interests and choose that path.
